Northeast Marina

Challenge: A prominent marina owner in the Northeastern United States was facing a unique challenge while planning a new installation for decorative light poles. The existing design called for a prescribed base that simply wouldn't fit within the parameters of the installation area. Moreover, the pole itself was smaller, making the large standard base appear awkward and out of place. The marina owner needed a creative solution to maintain the desired aesthetic while accommodating the space limitations.

Solution: ScaleUp 3D, in collaboration with our skilled CAD Designer, stepped in to address the marina owner's predicament. Leveraging our expertise in 3D printing technology, we shrank a digital file of an existing TerraCast Rotomolded base and meticulously scaled the model to precisely fit the project's requirements. Once the digital renderings received the customer's approval, we turned to our state-of-the-art BigRep One.4 3D printer. Using a 1.0mm nozzle and 2.85mm HiTemp filament, we produced three identical sets of decorative light pole bases.

But our commitment to quality didn't stop there. To ensure the bases were not only aesthetically pleasing but also durable, we reinforced the interior with fiberglass for added strength. We then embarked on a meticulous finishing process, sanding the exterior, fairing any imperfections to achieve a smooth surface, and applying a high-quality primer. Finally, the bases were finished with a high-gloss coating, achieving a showroom-worthy shine.
